B.S. Right Wingnut Talking Point of the Week

Politifact has a nice piece out about this talking point that has been thrown around in conservative media circles that Obama’s trip to India will cost taxpayers two hundred million dollars a day. Problem with it? Its totally made up.

Turns out its just something that has gotten repeated over and over, and came from an anonymous tip to some newspaper in India. Last estimate for a trip like this was about ten years ago and was a quarter of that… for the whole trip.

  1. It is discouraging that some people, like Ms. Bachmann, are willing to spread inflammatory rumors and lies without at least some fact checking first. She is a member of congress and knows full well that organizations like Politifact can easily expose her bad behavior. Nonetheless, she does it repeatedly. Her record at Politifact is 7 false and 5 pants on fire ratings for her 12 reviewed statements (http://www.politifact.com/personalities/michele-bachmann/). How can that be? Why don't her constituents tell her to stop or resign? Why don't they care about the truth?

Is it really the case that our politics has become so partisan that politicians who should be trying to set examples of fairness and reason do the opposite? What this tells me is that the partisans on the left and the right both know their arguments and policies are losers and failures so there is no point debating on the merits. If that is the case and the public doesn't care enough to put a stop to such silly nonsense, America is truly hosed. I sure hope I am misreading this awful situation.
